        James Davenport came to Alabama in 1818 and was one of twenty persons that founded the Mulberry Baptist Church in Bibb County near Maplesville.  That portion of Bibb County later became a part of Chilton County on December 30, 1868.

        The minutes of the church from 1818 to 1853 have been lost or destroyed, but the original minutes of the church beginning with March of 1853 are on microfilm at Samford University in Birmingham.

Levi Banks Cobb was an ancestor of Mrs. Douglas Higginbotham Mary Rose Cobb, 305 Fairfield Avenue, Bastrop, Louisiana, September 1856.  She says tombstone says he was born in 1819.  He married in Bibb County, Alabama October 10, 1841 to Amanda M. Davenport, born 1823.  They moved to Louisiana after the war.  Amanda had a cousin, Rufus Davenport.  Levi was father of 11 children - Williamson, Alexander, Jimmy, Newton, Rufus, Alpome, Washington Lafette, Mary Ann, Suzannah, Laura and Victoria Alabama, all born in Alabama but the last two.  She knows that Levi had a sister named Polly (note by Gandrud, would be Mary wife of John Deshazo as Polly was nickname for Mary).
