2.  RICHARD⁴ FANCHER (BENJAMIN³, RICHARD², DAVID CORDONNIER¹ FAUCHER) was born April 19, 1767 in Morris Co. MD, and died August 21, 1849 in Bibb Co. AL¹.  He married MARY UNKNOWN before 1794.  She was born in Probably TN, and died 1856 in Bibb Co. AL.

From 'A History of Bibb County, Alabama 1820-1870' by Ulysses Huey Abrams:

        The early Fancher families were among the group from East Tennessee who settled near the source of Little Cahawba River in 1816, or some months before, while the area was still a part of Monroe County, Mississippi Territory.  Among their neighbors at that early date were the Mahan, Lovelady, Lindsey, Crowson, Haggard, Massengale, and Smith Families.  Some members of almost all of these families were on the tax list of Monroe County in 1816, which was two years before the creation of Cahawba County.

        Samuel Fancher and Richard Fancher, who evidently were twin brothers, both being born in 1767, were older members of the Fancher families who came with their married sons, but who still had families of their own.  They probably were from Maryland, but came here form Sevier County, Tennessee.

        Two of the sons of Richard Fancher married into the family of Henry Haggard, the Revolutionary War Soldier, these being James, who married Nancy Haggard, and John, who married Susan Haggard.  Richard Fancher was a devoted Baptist.  He was one of the founding fathers of the Cahawba Valley Church and also of the Cahawba Baptist Association.  He was also one of the founding fathers of the Mulberry Baptist Association in 1828.  He represented his church on many occasions at the Association meetings.  In his family line are several Baptist Ministers.  The records of the settlement of his estate show that he was in comfortable financial circumstances, and the owner of fifteen slaves.  THose who made purchases at the sales in connection with the settlement of his estate were:  Charles Carter, Elzy Veasey, Jeremiah Fancher, William D. Boaz, E.C. Smith, Elisha Fancher, Mary Fancher, J.B. Davis, Z. Boaz, H. Carleton, H.F. Fancher, Jason Pool, Leroy McGuire, Joseph Wood, and William Browner.
