Under the Act of Congress of March 3, 1871, Washington, D.C.
The Petition of Mrs. Jane Latham respectfully represents.
That she is a citizen of the United States, and resides at present at or
near Randolph in Bibb County, Alabama and that he resided when this claim
accrued at or near same place.
That she has a claim against the United States for property taken for the
use of the Army of the United States during the late rebellion at (or near)
Randolph, in the County of Bibb, and State of Alabama.
That the said claim, stated by items, and excluding any and all items of
damage, destruction, and loss, (and not use) of property; of unauthorized or
unnecessary depredations by troops and other persons upon property, or of
rent or compensation for the use or occupation of buildings grounds, or
other real estate, is as follows:

That the property in question was taken or furnished for the use of a
portion of the Army of the United States known as Wilsons Cavalry Corp and
commanded by [?] Gen James H. Wilson and that the persons who took or
received the property or who authorized or directed it to be taken or
furnished were the following:

That the property was removed to Cavalry Camp near and used for or by
General Wilsons Command all this on or about the fourth day of April in the
year, 1865.
That no voucher, receipt or other writing not given for the property.
That your petitioner verily believe that the property described was taken
under the following circumstances, or one or more of such circumstances,
viz:
For the actual use of the army and not mere gratification....
That Mrs. Jane Latham of near Randolph, Bibb County, Alabama the original
owner of said claim and that she is the present owner of the same.
That your petitioner remained loyally adherent to the cause of the
Government of the United States during the war and was so loyal before and
at the time of the taking of this property.....
That said claim has not before been presented to any one for payment by the
Government.
That Messrs. Lewis and Fullerton of Washington, D.C. have hereby authorized
and empowered to act as Attorney for the petitioner of this claim.
Wherefore your petitioner pray for such action of your Honorable Commission
in the premises may be deemed just and proper.

named in the foregoing petition, and who signed the same. That the matters
thereon stated are true of the deponent's own knowledge except as to those
matters which are stated on information and belief, and as to those matters
he believes them to be true; and deponent further said that he did not
voluntarily serve in the Confederate Army or Navy, either as an officer,
soldier, or sailor, or in any other capacity, at any time
during the late rebellion; that he never voluntarily furnished any stores,
supplies, or other material aid to said Confederate Army or Navy or to the
Confederate government, or to any officer, department of the same in support
thereof, and that he never voluntarily accepted or exercised the factions of
any office whatsoever under of yielded voluntary support to, the said
confederate government.

Information 2: Due to the hard times following the Civil War, Isaac's acreage dwindled to 240 acres by the time of Mary Ann's death in 1895.
Information 3: Isaac inherited one quarter section of land (Township22N, Range 11 E, Section 22), one slave named Louisa, livestock, and household goods. With this inheritance and the slaves Mary Ann had inherited from her father, they built a 2 story house.
Information 4: Isaac suffered a stroke while preaching a revival.

There were eight children born to William and Sarah Fulton Lovelady. The first was Mary E. Lovelady born about 1846 in Alabama. She married first Bennie Sanders and had six children. Bennie Sanders died, leaving his wife and children. She married 2nd Hardy Bearden (brother to the other Beardens who married Loveladys). He was a widower and they raised their children together. Two of the Sanders girls married Bearden boys. Hardy probably had a very lonely life after Mary left him three or four years before his death. He took his own life one day in his later years. His daughter-in-law found his body beside the creek near his home. He was a very proud man, as has seemed to run in the Bearden family. He would not accept any form of charity from anyone.

Born and reared in the rural section of Bibb County, near Lawley, Alabama, the daughter of the late Frances Belvin Edwards, and the late Bennett S. Edwards, died June 8, 1962 (Friday) in the Chilton County Hospital, Clanton, Alabama at approximately 12: 50 A.M. Funeral services at the Rehobeth Baptist Church, Lawley, Alabama 3 P.M. June 9th. The Rev. J. R. Robinson of Notasulga, Alabama was incharge of services and was assisted by the Rev. Eddie Ruddick of Huntsville, Rev. Grady Williams of Clanton, Alabama and the Rev. Lloyd Jones of Stanton, Alabama. Pallbearers wer Archie McKinney, William Lee Gay, Millard Reynolds, Melvin Carter, C.C. Gay, Jr. Manley and Hershel Parnell. Incharge of thehuge floral arrangements were: Mrs. John T.O'Neal, assisted by Ms. Pauline Carroll, Mrs. William Ruddick. Mrs. Hicks, early in life joined Tabernacle Methodist Church. She married I. U. W. Hicks, son ot the late Rev. I.M. Hicks of Lawley, Alabama when 17 years of age and soon afterwards joining the Rehobeth Baptist Church accepting the faith of her husband and remained a member of that church until her death. She was a charter member of the Adult Sunday School Class of this church and the eldest member of the Plantersville, Alabama Eastern Star Chapter No.309. Mrs. Hicks was deeply loved and respected by all who knew her. She shared with those less fortunate; lending a helping hand at all times with those in need. She was an excellent neighbor, an affectionate and loving wife and mother-never complaining. Mrs. Hicks loved life and people. Greeted visitors to the last at her home with a smile and asked them to come back to see her. Mrs. Hicks was critically ill from Thursday May 31st remaining in the home until Monday night, June 4th, when she was removed by Martin's Ambulance to the Chilton County Hospital, Clanton, Ala. Friends and relatives gathered from near and far to attend the last rites of their loved one.

He was a member and Deacon of Shiloh Baptist Church. He came here from Miss. in 1898 and he married Miss Martha Moore of Bibb County who survives him. Rev. B. Lawerence and G.G. Williams, and Paul Oden conducted the funeral.

Burial will follow in the Plantersville Baptist Cemetery under the direction of Martin Funeral Home. Survivors include one son, Johnny F. Smith of Plantersville; three daughters, Dot Bone of Maplesville, JoAnn Milam of Calera and Glenda Short of Maplesville, one brother, Howard Chism of Plantersville; three sisters, Venice Dunkin of Plantersville and Ruth Cameron and frances Snodgrass, both of selma; 23 grandchildren; and 52 great-grandchildren.

Information by Anita Fay Headley, Graveside services for Naomi Fern Chism, 72, of Plantersville were held April 5 at 2 p.m. in the Plantersville Baptist Cemetery in Plantersville with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Chism died April 4 in Central Alabama Community Hospital. She is survived by her husband Howard Chism of Plantersville; two daughters: Ruby Seales of Stanton and Geraldine Champion of Plantersville; a son, Leland Chism of Plantersville; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

David Bishop and Dr. Robert Crider officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Baptist #2 Cemetery in Lawley with Martin Funeral directing. Mrs. McAFee was born May 23, 1914, in Alabama to the late Columbus Jackson and Beulah Chism Lawley. She was a lunchroom worker. A widow, she died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1995, at Bibb Medical Center in Centreville. She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Smith, and son-in-law, Sith, of Clanton; her daughter, Joyce Barrett, and son-in-law, Donald Barrett of Selma; her son, Bobby McAfee, and daughter-in-law, Faye McAfee, of Centreville; her son, John McAfee, and daughter-in-law, Carol McAfee, of Prattville; her son-in-law, Coleman Smith of Plantersville; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three of several foster children who lived with Mrs. McAfee; Freddy Smith, Jeannie Gamblin and Tammy Dingler.
