1. RICHARD2 MCCARY, JR. (RICHARD1) was born 1763 in Amherst, VA, and died April 28, 1858 in Isney, Choctaw Co. AL1. He married (1) NANCY MARTIN May 07, 1787 in Goochland Co. VA, daughter of DAVID MARTIN and SUSANNAH ROBERTS/ROBARDS. She was born December 18, 1768 in Goochland Co. VA, and died before 1827 in Edgefield Co. SC. He married (2) MARY SAUNDERS February 22, 1828 in Bibb Co. AL. She died Unknown.
Notes for RICHARD MCCARY, JR.:
Copied from Family Tree Maker, World Family Tree, Vol. 4, Pedigree 4140:
Richard McCary married Nancy Martin on May 7, 1787 as the result of a marriage bond sec. [secured?] William Martin. Source: Marriages of Some Virginia Residents 1607-1800. Dorothy Ford Wulfect, Volume II, surnames I-Z. Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. Baltimore, 1986.
Richard McCary, Jr. and Richard McCary, Sr. are located in the 1790 South Carolina Census for Edgefield County; 1790 was the first National Census.
Three different publications listed a Richard McCary as a Revolutionary War veteran:
National Genealogical Society. Index of Revolutionary War Pension
Applications. Washington, D. C., 1966.
Gwathmey, John H. Historical Register of Virginians in the Revolution.
Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1973.
Julich, Louise M. A Roster of Revolutionary Soldiers and Patriots in
Alabama. Montgomery: Parchment Press, 1979.
The first publication on page 743 showed a Richard McCary of Virginia as receiving a survivor's pension Number S 38187. The second listed Richard McCary of Amherst, E. and Richard McCary of Alabama, pensioner, both on page 376. I assume that this is really the same individual due to relocation. The McCary family moved from South Carolina to Alabama. The last publication contained a biographical sketch on whom I assume to be Richard McCary, Jr. because of the common date of birth and most of the children's names. Note: a copy of the pension application is on file with Fred Barry McKinley.
Copied from Family Tree Maker, Vol. 9, Pedigree #0913:
Richard McCary, whose wife had recently died, arrived here (Bibb County, Alabama) in 1827 from Edgefield, South Carolina, with five of his children, and chose a parcel of land to homestead which was located about two and one-half miles southeast of Randolph. He stated, in his application for transfer of his war pension, that he came to Bibb County because the older members of his family were already here. Richard McCary was born in Virginia sometime during 1763. As a very young man, he joined the Army of the American Revolution as a soldier from Amherst County, Virginia. He was placed in a cavalry unit, the duties of which, besides the conventional ones, were the procurement of horses for the service. Among his superior officers were: Captains Keith and Yarbrough, Colonel William Washington, and Lieutenant Colonel Thornton. He was discharged from the service at Richmond, Virginia, in 1781. He married and moved to South Carolina sometime before 1792. All of his children were born there. From there, he and his children came to Bibb County. Sometime before 1850, he followed some member of his family into Choctaw County, Alabama, where he died about 1856.
