Notes for SYLVESTER 'BUDDIE' HEADLEY:
Copied from internet site, http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/r/e/y/Donna-Reynolds-Ga/GENE5-0004.html:
Sylvester loved to hunt raccoons, rabbits, possums and turkey. He used to tell a story about killing seven turkeys with a single shot. He said they were all sitting on the same branch and he hit the limb and shot off their toes.
Sylvester remained tall and thin throughout his life and in later years he had white hair and a long white beard.
Their farmland was near Verbena in Chilton Co. AL. Sylvester farmed for a living and bought his first sheep through mail-order and was one of the few farmers in the county who tried raising sheep.

Notes for JAMES MOSES KICKER:
James Moses Kicker, called Jim, was born in Coopers, the third child of Joseph Kicker and Lydia Downs. He appeared as a 2-year-old in the 1880 census with his parents. However, his mother died in 1882, when Jim was only 5 years old, and after his father's remarriage, his stepmother Luna was soon busy with her own children. So, after he was nine, he left home and lived with his Uncle Gip Downs, his mother's brother, and he worked in his Uncle J. B. Downs' Mercantile in Coopers. But he soon went to Birmingham where he worked in Pat Fleton's shoe store and earned a penmanship diploma by coorespondence in 1896.
On New Year's Day 1902, Jim married Hattie Tate when they were both 24 years old. She was a daughter of Jeremiah Tate and Martha Ann Taylor. His friend Pat Felton signed the marriage bond with Jim. Her parents were both dead, so her brother Lee Tate had been helping to provide for her and she worked at Loveman's Department Store until she married.
After their marriage, Jim took a business course at Massey Business College and Birmingham to study accounting, shorthand, and typing. These skills helped him earn a good living the rest of his life.
Jim and Hattie moved to Tuscaloosa where he temporarily worked at Rosenau Company as a bookkeeper. Then he was hired by Semet-Solvay Coke Company, a factory that converted coal into coke and other by-products. The young couple moved to a company house in Holt where two of their children were born. But Jim wanted to own his own home. so, he bought 20 acres of land in Alberta, halfway between Tuscaloosa and Holt. He built his family home in 1909, adding to the house in 1913. The house still stands on the corner of Kicker Road and 13th Avenue in Tuscaloosa.
