Notes for WILLIAM GREEN RASBERRY, SR.:
From World Family Tree Maker, Vol 9, Pedigree #0913:
William Green Rasberry enlisted with two nephews (one with the same name) in the Confederate Army. He served in Company D and H, 29th Alabama Infantry Regiment, Alabama Volunteers, CSA. The book: "Hold At All Hazards, The Story Of The 29th Alabama Infantry Regiment 1861 - 1865", by William A. Zorn tells of the death of both nephews from disease. The book says about William Green, "He was sick on furlough from June 30 - October of 1862, discharged by substitute, M.F. Hamilton, May 1, 1863". The family story is that he was home on sick leave from the army, and having recovered was getting ready to go back and report. Rode his horse over to tell his uncle goodbye. Riding home from his uncle's the horse threw him into a tree and his injuries caused his death. He evidently lived long enough to sign his very shaky "X" to a will, but died the same day. I (Azalia) have a copy of this will.

Notes for MELONA ASTORIA CAMPBELL:
From Family Tree Maker, Vol 9, Pedigree #0913:
Malona Astoria Campbell never remarried and struggled through the post-war years in Alabama to raise her two sons. Although all census records show her as a housewife, her son, my (Azalia's) grandfather, said she was a tailor as well. In fact he said that she would raise the sheep, shear them by hand, card, spin, and dye the wool, weave the cloth, and tailor a man's suit for $7.00.
The 1870 census of Baker County (later named Chilton County) shows Malona with her two sons, James Lawson, age 17, and Benjamin Fleetwood, age 15. Also listed with them were John Thacker, age 18, working on farm, and Rilar Cox, a black domestic servant.
Her mother, Martha "Patsy" Glascock Campbell was living next door.
