Childress was born on Feb. 22, 1908, in Chilton County, the son of the late Clarence and Alice Childress. He was a machine operator. He died at his residence on March 28, 1999. Among the survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Dot Porter and Mrs. Faye McClusky, both of Jemison; a son, David Childress, Jemison; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
